ummm...hey...everyone still alive? [Jun. 1st, 2007|09:02 pm]

[music |the awful sound this computer makes!]

Hello!!

Wow...it's been a long time since I've been on here. Since my last post I have left Ferrum, we moved to Roanoke, Addy went away for 2 1/2 weeks to come back even bigger and I have started a new job at the Roanoke Civic Center, all within about 3 weeks time. Amazing...I feel like my life fast forwarded about 2 years with everything that has changed.

I LOVE living in Roanoke. It'll be even better when we don't have to take Addy down to Rocky Mount for school anymore. Only 1 more week of that, thank God! Working at the Civic Center has been fabulous. The people there are great and I've already taken advantage of free tickets!! Next Saturday I take Addy to Richmond so we can fly up to Detroit and drop her off at my parents for 2 weeks. They are watching her while we go to Bonnaroo and be irresponsible for 5 days. I can't wait to take off and not have to think about packing or a new job or moving or leaving friends or anything!

The only bad thing about the new job is that Livejournal is one website (along with ebay) that they have banned. Sorry folks, you guys are just way too explicit for my company!! I'll hopefully be able to read up on all the daytime gossip in the evenings...as the journal turns...

Peace out!

So...while I'm waiting here to go to a free lunch, I have two bits of info that I am dying to spill.

1. I have a flying squirrel on my desk...he's in a cage but he's just looking at me with those big beady black eyes, as if to say..."WHAT THE FUCK!?! I just wanted the peanut butter...."

2. And again...in the news...

Man's greatest fear: wife cuts off husband's penis

It's happened again. I'm amazed it doesn't happen more often. Women have much more power than they know. In Thailand, a Thai woman cut off her husband's penis after he asked her to make love one more time before he left her for another woman. But she would still want him back, even without his penis. After cutting it off, Saithong Wantha, 53, asked neighbours to take Udom Phorit, 35, to hospital while she turned herself in to police. The neighbours could not find the severed organ, and had to call Saithong on her mobile phone. She told them she'd tossed it behind the fence in the front yard. Nearly two hours went by before surgeons could operate. Finally, they reattached Udom's penis, but said there was only a 50-50 chance it would function properly. Saithong told the police that she cut off Udom's penis in a fit of rage because he was leaving her. She hoped he would stop philandering and stay with her if he could no longer function sexually. "I love him and I don't want him to leave," she said.

Ummmm...she should have thought about that BEFORE cutting his penis off...didn't anyone ever tell her that the way to a man's heart is through his STOMACH!?

RELAY FOR LIFE is tonight!!! Whoohoo! Addy loves being able to run around the baseball field and it's even better because it's for a good cause!!

That's all! Oh...and I want my hair towel...ransom won't work*...

*ok...yes, it will...but I don't have anything...WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME?!?

ok...(hang head here)...sorry pictures haven't been put up. That's it...no excuses*...just a plain 'ol sorry.

I will hopefully be able to post them late tonight or tomorrow night some time.
WooHoo!

*If you want excuses, however, I have them and they are as follows. We have actually not been home together with Addy on a given night since the night I wrote that post. Crazy, I know...but, that first weekend we were out of the house, seperately both days, On Monday, Dean had to work late, Tuesday I had to go into Ronaoke to drop the canine off at a friend's house, Wednesday we left for the most awesomest trip ever, we got home late the following Monday night where Addy went straight to bed and last night I was up in Ronaoke getting the said canine!! So, tonight will be the first evening to eat a good home-cooked supper spend some actual time with our daughter and get some pictures taken. I'm stoked to get some family time!

Ok...because I LOVE to look at other people's pictures and see how they live, it's only fair to offer up the same vulnerability*. So without further ado:

Ask me to take pictures of any aspect of my life that you're interested in/curious about -- it can be anything from my favorite socks to Addy's favorite nighlight. Leave your requests as a comment to this entry, and I'll take the pictures and post them on Monday so you won't miss them over the weekend. Feel free to say, "I don't want to see any pictures of yours, bitch" too. (This quote taken directly from truckface...really...I swear)

*this, because I know I don't have nearly as many friends that will see this...BRWAHAHAHA...

Random Question fro a Monday... [Jan. 22nd, 2007|12:42 pm]

[music |squeaky doors]

So, driving along the other day, I started wondering about cars and their contents during an automobile accident. I mean say your on your way home from the grocery store. You just bought $150 worth of groceries and you get in a car accident. You have basically lost your groceries and $150 dollars...and I am to assume (becasue of physics) that groceries are everywhere. However, I have never driven by an accident and rolled over a tomato or a box of tampons or a bag of chips. Your life is strewn about for the evening travelers to see and it bother me that your laying there, needing CPR and someone could be reading your new magazine or crunching on YOUR pringles.

I'm just a little disturbed and now constantly worry about what's in my car when I'm driving.

[music |Wii music]

Yesterday, the 21st of November was one of those days that I spend every year looking back on my life and reflecting. Yesterday marked my father's death of 23 years. It is very strange because in 1983 the 21st also was the week of Thanksgiving and the week of major traveling, family, funerals and complete chaos.

I'm not quite sure what it all means...I do know that I don't hate Thanksgiving, in fact it is my favorite holiday. It's all about food and NO GIFTS!!! You don't have worry about someone getting you something and you forgot to get them something. I HATE that...it is soooo awkward! So, yes, thanksgiving ROCKS!! Just thought I would share that!

OK, Dean wants me to get off to play the Wii with him and his parents! Better go!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Briinnggg...Eyes open to the clock reading 7:08 AM...Briinnggg....

Me: Hello?

Man: Hello. Sorry to bother you, Maam, but I was calling your husband back. Is he home?

Me: No, he's not. Can I take a message?

Man: I had left a message up on the Ferrum Minute Market Board about needing Pine Trees and he called and left me a message that he could help me out.

Me: Pine Trees?

Man: Yes, maam.

Me: (This shows how awake I was)Pine Trees? Like the kind in a yard?

Man: Well, I'm building a log cabin and needed some more pine logs.

Me: Oh. Well...I'm PRETTY sure that it wasn't my husband who called you.

Man: Is this 9975?

Me: Yes, it is.

Man: Well, I thought this was the number the man left me on my answering machine.

Me: Well, Sir, it might have been...but I am PRETTY sure it wasn't my husband.

Man: Ok, well, sorry to bother you...you have a good day, maam.

Me: You too.

And THAT'S how MY day started...

...two in one night...shoot me!

Ok, so I forgot to mention what happened when I went to go pick up Addy tonight at daycare. I was putting her jacket on when I overheard the teacher telling someone that "yes, you can go say goodbye to Addy". I was like, oh...how cute one of her little girl friends wants to say goodbye to her. Over walks this good for nothing, too old for his own good, player lookin' blond kid...(actually, he really was a cute little blonde 3-year old). He stands right in front of Addy and waves to her saying "Bye, Addy." Addy just waves back and says, "bye".

WHAT!!!??? Did I just miss like 16 years of her life? I tell Dean at dinner and he immediately looks over and asks her if she has a boyfriend (ACK!) While I am shooting Dean the "Don't say that!" look, she is nodding her head saying "yeah" ever so nonchalantly.

WHAT??!!

Ohhh...what's next driving and talking on the phone at the same time?

Geez!

Red and itching... [Sep. 13th, 2006|08:39 pm]
[Current Location |home sweet home]
[music |the ticking clock]

Yeah...so, ummmm...if anyone ever tells you that the expiration dates on sunscreen are bullshit...

DON'T LISTEN!! RUN...RUN FAR FAR AWAY FROM THEM.

Seriously...I am still red. I hurt and I itch and I still can't sleep on my stomach or sides. What's really funny is that I tried to be super cautious too....oh hell, here I'll just tell you the little story of how Corri became so anal about expiration dates all of a sudden...well, enough to come home and go to the bathroom closet and throw away anything that had an expired date on it...which didn't leave us with much.

So I'm hanging with my fellow yorkies at Cape Hatteras on Saturday, September 9th and we decide to head to the beach since it was our first nice day. I contemplate putting on the "dark tanning" spray with an SPF 4 (which I bought this summer). I remember, however, that my white body has not seen the sun since June (Bonnaroo..yippee!). I then decide to play it safe. I brought some sunscreen with SPF 30 that I found in my closet. I lather it on!! We head out to the beach. After about 4 hours, I start feeling like my skin is starting to burn, so i make the call that I needed to head inside. I walk back to the condo and climb up the trellis to the second floor balcony (Thanks, Wendopolis for locking me out :)) and go inside and sit in the air conditioning (Ahhhhhh). It didn't take long to realize that I am actually very uncomfortable. Why? How could I have possibly been burned THAT badly...I've been burned by the sun before. So I walk to the bathroom to look in the mirror and OH MY GOD IS THAT ME? Why didn't my fellow yorkies say something about the red dayglow person sitting in the family room with them? How could they possibly miss me? I was BRIGHT (and I mean neon glowing sign, bright). Not to mention the fact that I was in massive amounts of pain!!

So the moral of the story is...always check that Wendopolis has the keys to the building before the locked door shuts and that she is home when you want to go inside.

Springer UPDATE: The Redness is still in most spots...the thighs are still the worse and have turned a very grotesque purplish color...I finally braved my first shower yesterday...and I am still on Tylenol. Needless to say, since we have no more sunscreen in the house (I just threw it all out) I will buy all new stuff next year and hopefully (cross my fingers) this will never, ever, cross my heart and hope to die ever happen again.

Final words: To top it all off, I have a fever blister the size of a nickel on my bottom lip. The Sun sucks.

Dean: oh, yeah...i saw them there the other day...(blank stare)

Me: (Blank Stare)Dramatic pause - "AND YOU DIDN'T TELL ME!"

Only so many exciting things happen in Franklin County...how dare he not tell me something like that!

I LOVE being able to check myself out at the grocery store. It means one less stranger person that I have to play nice with and act like I really do care how many hours they have left on their shift. Been there...Done that..Your turn...getoverit!!!

[music |hum of copy machine]

So I get to work this morning and there is a mock crime scene outside my doors. After stepping over the "fallen" bodies - that were still talking - I was then interupted by being told that the power will be out all over campus from 1-3 today. I finally get into my office and my computer is having problems because 'someone' left a disc in the drive when the power had gone out at some othewr point in time. I finally get that fixed and get to my email and discover that I have SO much stuff to do today that I am now very stressed out and wishing I could walk back to my car and try to walk in again...maybe something will change...

Right now we have the marching bands on campus for their camps. We find random students in blue or red or yellow or any other solid colr so you can tell who's with what band, wandering the halls of my building. They have heard from "upperclassmen" that we have *gasp* DEAD BODIES in our building. Well, duh. We are a science building and we teach anatomy. Because of this, we have keep all of our doors locked for the storage rooms and classrooms because they will just make themselves at home and wander into any room that is open.

The whole point of this email is to complain, because if it weren't for these nosy kids, I wouldn't have to hold my keys in my pocket all day. I hate that...they get all bunched up when I sit down and leave marks on my legs and it hurts.

Stupid nosy band kids...

This one church in Ferrum is aleays trying to come up with catchy slogans for their little marquee they have. This morning, as I drove by, I couldn't help but laugh...

"God loves you because you were his idea"

WHAT?!

So...if you don't believe in him...than he doesn't love you because he won't claim you...

It's a little narcissistic...which is an ungodly trait, right?

A walk down memory lane... [Jul. 22nd, 2006|06:58 pm]
[Current Location |Ferrum, Home, Family Room, blue couch,]
[mood | cheerful]
[music |The sound of Monster's Inc. playing on the DvD]

So, here I am, sitting in Ferrum, minding my own business, when an old middle/high school friend emails me to tell me she will be coming here (surprise look inserted here!) for two weeks. I was, of course, excited as we don't normally have a lot of out-of-town friends come all the way out here. So, friday night she and I (thanks, Dean for staying home with Addy so i could have a girls night out :)!) went in to Roanoke for some food, shopping, coffee and a movie! We had a lot of fun just catching up and talking like we used. Today she came and hung out at the house with the family and was entertained by Addy and her antics. She brought some tin whistles with her and let Addy play with them. It was so cute, Addy kept making the sound with her mouth instead of just blowing into the whistle!

At first, I sat here and wondered why we lose touch with friends after high school. Then, as the the light bulb clicked, it hit me. If we stayed friends with the same people all our life, we wouldn't give ourselves a chance to grow into individuals. Being older (and wiser:)) little things just don't get to you anymore like they did in high school. It was so nice to just hang out and discuss what we had been doing over the last 12 years. It was like having an instant friend.

I really enjoyed having someone to hang out with too. We are so far removed from just having close friends near-by that we kind of forget what it is like. To think that because we don't live near family or close friends, Dean and I rarely got out at night together. I can think of two times we have gone out at night around here together and both times were when my mom was visiting. And to think we are used to it. Sad.

Anyone else wanna come visit...?

1st Journal Post Ever! [Jul. 20th, 2006|11:33 pm]

[Current Location |Ferrum, Home, Family Room, blue couch,]
[mood | peaceful]
[music |Kona's Breathing]

Well, here goes. As you read on Dean's LJ, this has been a weird week. I think the only nice thing about these types of weeks is that it makes you feel human again. I think we forget sometimes in our normal daily life that we are all walking the stairs in the M.C. Esher drawing. Some of us are upside down, some of us are backwards, not all the stairs lead to where we want to go, yet they all lead us somewhere. And the clincher is that we all continue to walk until we just can't anymore.

On a lighter note, Addy got her first haircut tonight. I talked about it all day so she would be excited about it. She was still a little nervous, but she did great. We didn't do anything drastic, just evened out all around. Children's hair grows so uneven in the first couple of years...it was starting to look pretty bad. When she was in one of the moments of being tired of the chair we asked her "Don't you want to be pretty?" Her reply was a flat out "No!" Well, she finished the haircut and the pictures are funny to say the least. She has now accomplished another 1st in her life.

It was nice to have Dean home again, even if the mood was a little somber. Understandingly so. This is a very hard time for him. Unfortunately, it is hard for me to completely get what he is going through as I did not have close grandparents. Come to think of it, his Grandma was the closest Grandma I had. While I know and have lived through the loss of a very close loved one, it is far different than what he is going through. We knew this would be coming and yet we still weren't really prepared for it.

On that note - my reflection comes with a glass half full attitude. I like the thought of a higher purpose knowing what he/she is doing and making this work out for someone. The world does continue to revolve in the same direction no matter how fast we try to walk backwards.
